Protecting Children From Age Spots

Age spots, also known as liver spots are those dark spots that develop on skin One’s age doesn’t really increase the chances of a person to have age spots. These spots are brought about by the skin’s hyperpigmentation. Since our skin is exposed to the sun, it is melanin which protects it from the sun’s harmful rays. But having age spots as a child could be cute or annoying, and of course parents are concerned about this.

Age spots could be brought about by many different reasons. Heredity is a cause. If this occurs in most of family members or relatives, one has the chance to develop “age” spots. Age spots are commonly inherent with people with pale skin. Age spots can also be due to one’s daily routine.

Age spots on children can be hard to evade because children stay long under the sun when they play. A solution to this is having your kids play indoor games or let them play under a shade.

Kids are not yet concerned of their skin. So, encourage your kids to bring an umbrella and use it when walking under the sun.

applying sunscreens is another option. Before using a sunscreen, take a look at it’s sun protection factor first. The higher the SPF, the better.

Your child’s diet may also influence skin pigmentation. eliminate junk foods from your child’s diet and give them healthy and nutritious foods.  Fruits and vegetable are good for the skin, no matter what kind of fruit or vegetable it is.

But if your child already has these spots, it is wise to see a dermatologist if these spots are really severe and bothersome. If you want, you may ask the dermatologist to take care of your child’s age spots. {You may ask the dermatologist to recommend a treatment for your child.} Treatments may range from creams, serums and surgery.

If you don’t want to go through all of that, then try to follow the tips that have been mentioned earlier. There is a maxim that goes “prevention is better than cure”.
