The Significance Of Prompt Skin Protection In The Prevention Of The Sun’s Damaging Effects

Have you ever pondered what the damaging effects of the sun to our skin’s state are? These harmful effects that the sun brought to our skin will not develop unless several years have already passed. This is due to the fact that the everyday our skin receives accumulate until it presents at a later time. For this reason, people only get to be exposed to these petrifying effects for real if they are already forty years old and above. Therefore, while you are still young, ensure that your skin is always protected from the sun.

But what are these harmful effects anyway? The first on the list, which I think is probably the most popular, is sunburn. Though sunburns might seem minor, they actually pose high risks for skin cancer development most especially melanoma. Another negative outcome is premature aging wherein conditions accompanying senility occur even before reaching the aforementioned stage. The sun’s ultraviolet rays contain free radicals which cause wrinkles and other signs that make people appear old by modifying peoples’ genetic make-up. In addition to this, the skin’s dryness and thickening is rapidly becoming evident. The next negative result of the sun, which you might not be aware of is the immune system’s decreasing function. Without a reliable immune system, we are highly prone to developing various diseases such as skin cancer. Last on our list, the most usual type of cancer – skin cancer – is the sun’s most unwanted form of skin damage. There are three types, namely, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. The first one, basal cell carcinoma, has the highest occurrence. The type of skin cancer that develops from actinic keratosis and is the next most common skin cancer type is the squamous cell carcinoma. The third type, malignant melanoma, is well-known for its high mortality rate. So, if ever you notice something different about your skin, immediately consult a doctor.

For these harmful effects mentioned above, it is just right to perform skin protection as early as possible. If you know someone from the younger age brackets, rouse them to do the same.

Always wear sunscreen whether you are outside or you are just staying inside your home. Sunscreens are given a certain score to represent their sun protection factor. When you are merely staying at home, a sunscreen with a sun protection factor lower than fifteen is recommended. However, a sunscreen labeled with a sun protection factor of fifteen and above is what you will need once you decide to go outside. You must also see to it that the sunscreen you are to purchase is a broad-spectrum sunscreen – helpful against the two types of ultraviolet rays, UVA and UVB. There is no better way of discerning this but by looking for the terms titanium oxide, zinc oxide or UVA/UVB filters on the label. When using sunscreens, apply as much as you can and do not think you are wasting because this just might cost you your skin in the end. It will also be of great help if you remain indoors between ten in the morning and three in the afternoon. Lastly, wear additional protective clothing such as pants, clothes with sleeves, hats or caps and sunglasses.
